Thanks guys for your opinions.
I think I see what you're saying about the "4" remnants. |

Spotted the 4 and then saw Steve's post. Looks like an 834 someone tried to make more pricey!

That is why, collectively, we usually can come up with the good date codes.

I agree with that. Very well done.

Thought I posted this question earlier...
When a date is 'massaged'...isn't the surface of the housing altered? I would think it would have to be ground down or milled to create a clean surface for the re-stamp... just trying to understand the process. wilma

I looked as best I could for signs of the surface being "massaged", but it looks pretty even around the 37. |

I think they sandblast the area until the unwanted stamp disappears. Then re-stamp.

The "7" always seems to tell the tale, if you look at the 37A, the 7 has a little "swale" to it (pushed out stamping)that is how most of the "7's" in the 837 p/n sequence look as well. The "7" in the p/n is crisp, too crisp

Good eyes guys! probably a good policy (when buying an 837) to look for an original (not sand blasted) skin. Mike's photos show the surface to look for. Similar to block stamps that have been "aged" with acid - don't just pay attention to the numbers, look for the surface that they are stamped onto.
