Barry, any info rec'd in the past from NICB will still be the same today. Be happy you have these cars, they seem to be from the top of the heep.

The problem is that in order to access the system for the old stuff, you have to provide a lot of detailed information on why you are accessing the system and provide a lot of credentialing on the user (person accessing the system itself) and NOBODY wants to give that up if something blows up (privacy law wise) down the road. I know a lot of the Police depts have been warned not to try to access it unless it is pertaining to an open case/car theft etc.

There must be someone doing it because I see references to NICB reports for certain cars.

I don't get it. The NCIB info is important to guys like us but it is extremely benign information. Why would they not be able to release this to the owner of a vehicle???

You need a case number and better have a good reason for your request when obtaining one. However in some states you can now legally obtain license tag info for a fee, which was not permitted years ago. I think NICB may be sitting on a cash cow if the privacy law issue was re-legislated to some extent for this.

I was having this conversation just the other night. It seems the consensus is post 9/11 this report has become impossible to conduct. Have members here seen this trend as well?

But if the report is merely information on where the car was originally delived to it does not seem like sensitive information. Does the report reveal anything else about the history of the car??

Seems like it varies...some just list original selling dealer, but others are more detailed and show delivery date/dealer/dealer code.
Seems like dad had pitched the idea to someone @ one time about it being semi-pertinent in avoiding possible insurance scams down the road [guys claims his non-Yenko he owns is a Yenko, insures it for $xxxx dollars, then burns it to the ground], but it fell on deaf ears... ![]() |

I believe that you also get the shipping weight of the car.
This has helped determine if it's a big block or small block. It's an approximate number, though. |
