Who has the secret formula and process for recreating the black and aqua trunk spatter paint on my 2nd gen Camaro? I have not seen anything close come out of a can, any experts care to share? Thanks in advance for the feedback, tell me how and I'll make you proud.

Last I read on this site, the trunk paint is a proprietary
process that either Frank Arone or the SuperCar Workshop developed. As I understand it, this process will only be applied to a given customers car at Frank's shop, and will not be sold to do it your selfers.

Tom and I also came up with a system that looks exactly like original complete with the fisheye type look. Impossible to sell to a DYI and has to be done in a multi step process that is very labor intensive. Both the LS6 Chevelles we had at the LS6 Showcase at VetteFest were done this way as was the Pilot LS6 at last Novembers show. I believe Tom used this on Kent M's. LeMans Blue Z28 as well that was also shown at VetteFest.

Rick,
Do you use "black/aqua" or "gray/white" trunk colors for '69-'70? The old Dupont 389-259 spatter finish was labeled "gray/black/aqua", but when sprayed, looked like dark geay & white. |

For those that don't know, NOR and LOS(VN) trunk paints are not the same...if you care to make your car correct. NOR trunk paint is much easier to reproduce. Shops selling trunk paint typically ignore LOS trunk paint because they don't know better or don't care.

Paul,
Basically speaking we use a black/aqua though in reality there are three different phases of colors that are applied that give the end result. If you looked at the trunk in Dennis Lang's car at the recent Chevelle show out east, that was the very first attempt at this process after shooting 140 sample boards. As with the Camaros, the Chevelles vary plant to plant and in most cases, (as an example) a Leeds car will be very different than Dennis's car which is a Baltimore car. This requires a completely different process where in my opinion one has a fish eye appearence whereas the other has a stringy appearence. Hope this helped to answer the question.
