Default WIW? 63-5 Muncie, Baltimore VIN B134574

The main case has a casting number of 3851325 and is stamped P0624. The tail shaft has a casting number of 3846429. The side cover has a casting number of 3831707. The vehicle serial number stamped on this transmission is B134574.

I am guessing that this is a M20, 1963-65 with these ratios: 2.56 1.91 1.48 1.00

So, what is it worth?

To the guy with that VIN -- A BUNCH.

As an early Muncie core, needing rebuilding (if after pulling the side cover reveals that all the gears are OK) around here, $400 - $750. A similar one recently sold locally on CL for $400.

Good luck, BCD.

Pull the side cover and make sure it is not an M21. Early transmissions did not have grooves to tell the difference.

It's either a '64 or '65 (not a '63). Check the casting date in the circle on the main case. The VIN indicates a Baltimore Passenger car. With a June assembly date, it's either a '64 300hp 327 (2.56) or a 409 (if it's 2.20) or it's a '65 hi-po 327 or 396. You need to pull the side cover and make a tooth count.

Small pin Muncies are hard to move. We see them for sale out in the mid west a lot. They also have smaller sychronizer assemblies. Find the car! Then it is $$$$. Assembled June 24, either '64 or 65 Chevelle.

The cast date would be the second week of June (6 & 2 dots) which lines up with the assembly date. The sequence number of the VIN should be around the end of January, therefore it could only be a '65 Chevelle. It's odd for a trans to be built in June and not installed until Jan of the next year, but that's what the numbers say. Plus, that style 429 rear housing was only used into Feb. '65.
In '64 & '65 Baltimore only built trucks and Chevelles (no full size). When I said "Passenger", I only meant to distinguish between Corvette. (forget the 409 reference - not at Baltimore - my mistake)
