Default 69 Nova sending unit

Hoping someone here may have some info on the differences between L34 and L78 sending units. I’ve got a 69 Nova that I believe was an L78 and was under it yesterday getting pictures of the single fuel line and noticed the sending unit only has one single 3/8ths line coming out. I’ve done some research but no one’s ever given a set answer. I would assume the L34 would return to the tank through the sending unit?

A L34 would have had a return line. I looked in a 69 Assembly Manual to make sure and it does show a return back to the tank. So, it looks like you have a L78 setup. Post some more pics of the car you have. Guys here love the pics...

Part# 6428846 is for a 69&70 L34 Nova and Camaro, and #6427872 should be for the L78 Novas & Camaros. Hope this helps because that's all I could find out.

I'm open to anything 114279w468688. I've looked through the orphan parts and haven't had any hits on that vin but a guy can hope. the car was no question a big block, and with the clues i have it was an L78 i just want to have good proof (although i know this is a losing battle) id like to at least be able to stand my ground.

Being a 3.31 gear car i would assume it would've been m20.

The 3:55 gear (BT) was default for 69/70 L78 Nova, and 3:31 (BS.?) for L34, but could be optioned out anyway you wish. There are old threads here that are specific to BB Nova sending units, apparently there were assembly line some anomalies according to the threads, but who knows for sure. There are also old threads on Dshaft stripes, just have to dig

Ive looked for good info on dshaft stripes and havent found a solid answer, im sure there were assembly line anomalies but to have a single fuel line and correct alt with pulleys as well as the clips being different for the l34 fuel lines etc im still leaning towards l78, this sending unit has never been out nor has the fuel lines.....but without a block or paperwork who knows. the fuel pumps were different between l34 and l78 so if it was an l34 and it got a single fuel line then it would've had to use the l78 pump...i doubt it
