Default 1968 XF Camaro Nova 14X6 disc steel wheels - rims match dated K17 12 21

Hi Gang, SUPER RARE, and rusty, treat available here.

A hard to find PAIR of XF 14X6 1968 Camaro steel wheels.

This was the first year for standard dog dish type steel rims on our factory disc optioned supercars - only the ralley rally type wheel was available in 1967 for discs.

These are nicely dated at the end of the 1967 calendar year - K17 12 21 - December 21, 1967 for 1968 68 models.

They were just found during a restoration of an extremely original L35 car; these were the front rims and have suffered significant deterioration by being on the car with flat tires for decades while it sat near the beach.

These wheels are in very original, untouched, and RUSTY shape and are, in my opinion, original paint, if you can call them that. British Green, paint code Z / ZZ - it looks almost black.

But make no mistake these wheels are rough and are only here because of their rarity; they will need much work to be presentable and the beads will need to be cleaned up a lot - but they are rare enough to justify IMHO.

I've attached many photos to give the whole story as to their (VERY ROUGH) condition.

They were certainly used on the car for years and have the typical scuffs from trim rings and may be slightly dinged from a drop or two maybe - no significant curb rash noticeable and a few of the lug holes will need cleaned up / repaired. Indeed, these are what you use when there's nothing else, ...and there's nothing else.

Speaking of rarity, these XF examples, again IMHO, are much rarer that the famous 1969 69 COPO and SS 14X7 XT ones; I've had several of those and even sets, but not many XF units; they are unicorns.

Make no mistake though, these are rusty, as shown, from a life long California car, that sat outside, in the weather, near the beach.

I did sell a nice set of four of these a couple of years ago with the exact same date, which leads me to believe that these were built in batches - which, as we all know, is common practice for uncommon parts that weren't used on the line often. This came off of a 03D cowl tag car.

One interesting note is the inner hoop stamps show 14X5 JJ and 67 & 12 - that, again, my opinion, is a mis-stamp on these early wheels, because, as shown, they are clearly 6 inches wide. A stamping anomaly IMHO from this early batch of rims.

These are original equipment on and dated for:

all 1968 Camaros with disc brakes & SS cars that didn't get rallys

same with 1968 Novas / Chevy II with discs & SS cars

...and of course the famous COPO / Yenko / Gibb and other tuner cars with steel dogdish rims. And of course, the unconverted cars too.

I believe XF also came on base (non SS / non COPO) 1969 Camaros with front discs. And 69-70 Nova disc brake cars except SS and were optional on drum brake cars in 1969. But these are dated K17 for 68 build cars - Q4 67 and Q1 68

They will certainly clear 1968 GM four piston calipers - single 69 up piston too.

Look at the photos again, these can likely be made usable for the restoration of a 1968 super car if you have nothing else. And being original and untouched, you see exactly what you're getting; a terribly rusty foundation to restore these rare wheels. They will need bodywork and metal work certainly.

They were on, and rusting on, the front of a "I'll fix it someday" car for decades which was recently sold and is being restored, I have bead blasted by the valve stem - just to confirm the stampings.

These should be saved on general principle and for the right car.

priced accordingly of course.

Thanks for reading.
Anthony
