Helping a guy with ZL-1 block info
Hello everyone. I'm new to posting, but I have been an avid reader. I thought this might be of interest to you supercar guys. Over at Chevytalk.com in the Performance Related section under topic ZL-1 there is a guy with a 69 ZL-1 block cast #3946052 and pad # T0507ME. He has been unable to locate a vin # buy the oil filter. He got it from a roadracer in the 70's, he is trying to determine if it is an over the counter block/engine or a motor that was originally installed in a car. Can you guys shed any light on this? Thank You

Re: Helping a guy with ZL-1 block info
TO507ME decodes as a 1969 Corvette ZL-1 4 speed assembled 0507 = May 7th. There should also be a raised casting date on the side of the block w/the month and year of casting. Sounds like an over the counter block due to no VIN and only 2 ZL-1's went into corvettes.
Kevin, is this your original block.........?? |

Re: Helping a guy with ZL-1 block info
I would like to see it in person. I emailed him about buying it, along with a few other guys. I explained that I would be most keen about owning it, as having a ZL1 Vette. It is a ME code: 1969 427 manual trans vette.

Re: Helping a guy with ZL-1 block info
They made 80 ME blocks. They are pretty common. In fact, most ZL1 blocks that I've seen are this code.
