Default 12 Bolt Rearend Stamping

I have a BV coded 12 bolt rear end that I am trying to verify. It is a correct #860 69 Camaro rear. The axle is stamped BV 1116 G1 and that is all. There is no "E" stamped under it as all the posi applications are supposed to have. It is a Nov. 68 casting. Question is are all the BV stamped rears supposed to have the Eaton stamp or does anyone else have one that is not stamped? It appears to be an original stamp and not a restamp.

The axle was made at Detroit Gear and Axle Plant with the following posi codes used:

D = Dana Diff.

E = Eaton Diff

W = Warren Motive Diff.

No Stamp = Could have been an oversight by the assembler, remember, mistakes were common.

What diff did the rear have?

Paul

Hi Paul, Yes the differential had the original 4.10 dated gears and Eaton 4 series posi. Was definitely original to the rear. Just bugs me that it is not stamped for posi. Just opens up questions for us original guys. I guess your BV rear is stamped for posi?

Yes, mine is BV0417G1 E. It also has the original 4.10 gears and Eaton Posi.

Here is a picture of the BV stamping in question. Does anyone see anything odd about the stamping? It does not have the "E" stamp on it.

Maybe the E was missed at the time of stampings...Possible!
I just noticed that your BV and the above picture BV with the E, they both have the B and V staggered equally with the V up higher...interesting!

On rearend stamps, it is like they did not use a gang holder. You see on some BE rears the letter codes are not straight either. Roger
