For those that don't know, this is the week long version of the now famous "Pump Gas Drags", but with a twist...think Power Tour & Pump Gas Drags morphed into one! Racers will race at 5 different tracks in 5 different states, taking the average of the best run from each track, with the lowest average ET being the winner...but, the cars must drive from track to track, with no support vehicle! If you can't get it in your trunk, then it ain't goin' on the trip!!
Here's the lineup: Sunday, September 11 Kansas City, MO @ KCIR, Registration, tech inspection, kickoff party Monday, September 12 Kansas City International Raceway Kansas City, MO 64138 Tuesday, September 13 Gateway International Raceway Madison, IL 62060 Wednesday, September 14 Beech Bend Raceway Bowling Green, KY 42101 Thursday, September 15 National Trail Raceway Hebron, OH 43025 Friday, September 16 U.S. 131 Raceway Martin, MI 49070 Sunday @ KCIR, I may show up with the Yellow Submarine just to get some much needed TnT time...that is *if* I can remedy my bent axle in time! If any of you KC folks wanna get together @ KCIR on Sunday, holler at me...(Rusty this means YOU! ![]() |

Hey Rob,
Give me a call if you are heading up. I am sure you will know by this afternoon if you are coming. I know it would be fun, but like I said, I was nervous enough running to St. Louis and Stanton last year. I will make the drive to Stanton via a detour to Detroit this year (to pick up the truck and trailer! ![]() I know that people have made the predictions on what will make the best times and survive the thrash of 5 tracks in 5 days. I calculated it was something like 1700 miles traveled between all of the tracks. I am guessing computer controlled, boost enhanced cars that will have an overdrive thrown in the gearbox (or behind). I have a feeling that a 5.0 Mustang with a procharger will show up and clean house, but the running gear will have to be bull stout. Hey Charley, You should have left Maltitude here in the Mid-West. I am sure that Rob and I could have put it through the paces! ![]() ![]() I wonder how much the gas price is going to effect this race?

I just looked at the Hot Rod website and they had results from day 1 but not day 2. 5 classes- daily driver, small block naturally aspirated, big block naturally aspirated, small block power adder, big block power adder. The fastest time from day one was a 540 cu. in. '66 Nova w/laughing gas. His time at KCIR was 8.555 at 158 mph!

The 6-cylinder Nova wagon unloaded all their gear, checked the tire pressure, made one pass to the tune of 8.xx @ 150-something, loaded their gear, and hit the road! Ran the same tune-up on the track as they did on the highway...

Made it over to Gateway for the St. Louis leg of Drag Week yesterday. There were three 1966-7 novas running 8.50-.60's. I missed the first Nova eary in the morning as he runs in the 8.50 range, loads up his stuff and hits the road. This car is supposed to have a 12-71 Rat motor, Lenco, and EFI. It was wild to see some of these Pro Street cars pulling little trailers with slicks, toolboxes, and everything else needed. I also missed seeing the Nova wagon run but it looked like he was just arriving around noon. Anyway that white/blue stripe 68 vette from the pump gas drags ran a 9.13 but I'd have to say the coolest car there was Steve Atwell's REAL '68 Hemi Dart. He actually broke off the water pump snout as he was pulling into Gateway and Carquest delivered a new one by van to the track. Then he runs a 10.80. Can you imagine calling the auto parts store for a water pump for a '68 Hemi Dart? Crazy.

I pulled up the results from the entire week, and I saw that the Nova Wagon that Rob was going nuts over, broke the final day at Martin. The overall winner was Carl Scott from Oklahoma. The car was a '67 Nova w/540 BBC on laughing gas. The car ran an average over the 5 tracks in 5 days= 8.581 @ 157.136 mph. That is just sick. It appears that 7 of the 41 cars failed to complete the task!

Rumor is the Nova wagon didn't break, they got caught trailering it...there are pictures on the net of it being loaded into a trailer in the dark about 200 miles from Martin...
